February is for Fun(ds)

Even though I am still photographing interiors, products, headshots, and other sessions, it’s definitely a slower time of year. I always tell myself in July, “In January I’ll have time to update my website, sort through things, and work on the projects I want to get to now!”. And that’s exactly what I’ve been doing. Slowly, but surely.

February is coming up so very quickly, and I already have two events scheduled for the first two Saturdays of the month.

Christmas Eve was very rough for many businesses in Sioux Falls. The frigid 7+ days of below zero temperatures really put water pipes and sprinklers systems to their max. Unfortunately, many of them burst because of that strain on those pipes. The last days leading into the new year I recall hearing so many places having flooding and damage from burst pipes or broken sprinkler systems including Avera and Sanford.

One of them with damage was the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society, in one of their kennel rooms for dogs. This news broke my heart. I am struggling to get my dog Mya to go potty outside in these frigid temperatures, I can’t image trying to manage hundreds of dogs with that task and having a pipe burst! I collaborated with WoodGrain Brewing on December 4th, 2022 to fundraise for the SFAHS and it was a great success! I photographed dogs solo, with their humans, family photos on three different holiday backdrops. My volunteers and I also put together a raffle, some pet gifts and other items to help fundraise. We were able to donate $750 to the SFAHS.

Now on February 4th at WoodGrain Brewing Co. I will be hosting a valentine - ish themed photo fundraiser called Must Love Dogs. There will be photo sign up slots to bring in your pet, your family, your kids to have their photo taken on a variety of backdrops. We will also have raffle prizes, dog bandanas for sale, dog toys and blankets and more to help raise funds for the SFAHS. WoodGrain will be tapping ONE specialty keg that day for the event, and they will be generously donating a raffle prize package to the event as well. So, even if you don’t want a photo, or hate Valentine’s Day, there’s still plenty of incentive to come down and donate. The Sioux Falls Area Humane Society is currently awaiting bids on contractors to repair the wall damage done from the pipe burst.

Follow the event details and up to date info here.

Sign ups for photos will be released this Friday at 7pm! Keep an eye out for that as their are limited spots.

I am looking forward to seeing dogs, friends, and new comers at this event. It’s been a bit of a hibernation January.
